Please note: This new parish council website provides much greater
flexibility than the former website. This has allowed us to make minor
changes to the layout of updates, to ease reading. The content has
remained the same, other than minor adjustments to aid clarity and the
feedback paragraph being adjusted following Councillor Radclyffe's
resignation in August 2020, resulting in respondents being asked to send
feedback to the Chairman and/or Clerk (their email addresses are
provided below). The original update, as released in May 2020, is
available at the end.
Stage 1 - Assess the need for affordable
housing: Complete. See January 2020 update.
Stage 2 - Consider potential plots of land: The
owners of three sites are willing to consider an Affordable Housing
project. Dartmoor National Park
Authority conducted a Land Availability Assessment (LAA) in 2017 and the three
Dunsford sites can be downloaded here: DNPA 2017 Land Availability Assessment - Dunsford section
The 2017 LAA provided maps for the three Dunsford sites, which are shown below. The
highlighted areas depict the area within which such development could take
place (i.e. the actual area would be smaller):
Great Mead, Dunsford
Land to the south-west of Dunsford
Land at Townsend Farm, Dunsford
Stage 3 - Project viability: DNPA has
informally reconsidered the sites, and some of the 2017 LAA’s conclusions may today
differ. The three sites may each be
theoretically viable.
Next step: Housing Associations will be asked
to consider the sites’ viability, in terms of access, flood risk mitigation,
housing design (to fit in with local styles), environmental performance, car
park provision and other matters.
Stage 4 (Future): Parish consultation: We are
keen to inform the parish of our findings at a public consultation to be held in
the Village Hall. We decided at our April
meeting that a public consultation should not be held in an online/virtual
space because we want every member of our community to be able to express their
thoughts on the project equally. Due to
the coronavirus restrictions, we are sorry that we do not know when a village
hall event will be able to take place.
As such, any formal public consultation is on hold.
We welcome feedback from parishioners on these
ideas. We would be grateful if all correspondence regarding the research is
sent to our Chairman, Paul French, and the Clerk, Lynne Ogden. Their emails addresses are: pfrenchdunsfordpc@gmail.com and dunsfordclerk@gmail.com. All responses already sent in have already
been shared with Paul and Lynne.
We intend to collate all feedback as a
spreadsheet, which will be made available to councillors, our clerk and staff
assisting us at DNPA and Teignbridge District Council. The spreadsheet will not contain any personal
information; however, emails will be retained for the duration of this project,
to support further research, as required.
Our community will make
the final decision about whether to go ahead with such a project.
